TULSA, Oklahoma (October 8, 2018) – Kevin Stitt, a candidate for governor of Oklahoma, released today his Oklahoma Turnaround Plan for Education, a plan created from a series of listening sessions across the state with teachers, superintendents, education policy experts and parents. Stitt’s plan focuses on recruiting and retaining education professionals in Oklahoma, streamlining state regulations, and advancing the student through programs focused on a child’s growth and developmental needs.
“It is going to take all of us working together to turn our state around, which is why I have been holding town hall meetings and listening sessions with parents, teachers, and education leaders to put together a plan to make Oklahoma Top Ten in education,” said Kevin Stitt. “I got into this race as a political outsider because the mess we are in today has been decades in the making by career politicians. We need a fresh set of eyes on the problem, and I am committed to bringing all stakeholders to the table and leading us in hard decisions that deliver a brighter future for our children, teachers, and the next generation of Oklahomans.”
The plan will raise teacher compensation to the highest in the region in the first year of a Stitt administration. It focuses on the following five categories:
- Retaining the teacher, recruiting the future workforce;
- Streamlining state regulations, reducing costs;
- Delivering an efficient, accountable education network;
- Advancing the student, promoting growth; and
- Simplifying the funding formula, empowering local leaders.
